* Quality of Life *

Quality of Life

One morning after my weight lifting session with my two training partners, I got into a general conversation with one of them--Bill. Bill is 68 years old and the oldest of our trio. Somehow the conversation turned to the benefits of exercise. I told Bill that I exercise for quality, not quantity, of life. In other words, I don't exercise for longevity, but for a 'quality' of life for as long as I live.

This is an important distinction--quality as opposed to quantity. 'Quality' of life ensures that no serious medical issue will keep you confined to a hospital or nursing home. You also will not be a slave to multiple prescription drugs treating disease symptoms. You will be able to live life to its fullest despite your age. Look at the example Jack LaLanne is setting. I can also point out two men who train with weights at the gym I attend. One, Gene, is eighty years old and the other is 84 years old!

Conventional wisdom says that seniors in their 70s and 80s should be frail and in need of a caregiver. Nothing could be further from the truth. Exercise and good nutrition provide a powerful one-two punch enabling you to live a quality life.

The body is not unlike an automobile in that it has to be maintained and taken care of in order for it to perform well. As a matter of fact, an automobile's lifetime can be extended with the proper care. The same with the human body. A study was recently performed in which it was discovered that the aging process of a human cell can be slowed down through exercise. The cells of the study subjects who exercised were 9 years younger than the cells of people who did not exercise (couch potatoes.)

Quality of life is the difference between living and existing. When you are living, you are able to care for yourself. When you are existing, someone has to care for you. When you are living, life is exciting and pleasurable. When you are existing, you are merely going through the motions of life. We were not placed on earth by God to merely exist.

Your senior years do not have to be a death sentence. So many of us are so caught up in the act of living that we don't take the time to properly take care of our health. Good health is paramount to ensure a fruitful and prosperous life.

21st century America sends the message that you can rely on pharmaceutical drugs to take care of whatever ails you. America's healthcare mantra is treatment. It waits until you get sick and then prescribes prescription drugs to alleviate the symptoms. The cause of your illness goes unaddressed so that you become a lifetime customer of the multinational pharmaceutical cartel. (Read...)

Exercise and nutrition will make it possible for you to live independently of dangerous prescription and OTC (over-the-counter) drugs. I am 56 years young and I don't take, nor ever have taken any prescription or OTC drug--including aspirin. Why should I? I don't get headaches or stomach aches, colds, or the flu. (Read...)

I have been lifting weights consistently ever since February, 1978. Before then, I jogged consistently for 2 or 3 years. My quality of life is excellent. I feel great and energized when I get up at 5 AM to go to the gym. I am never fatigued. My friend Gene who will be 80 years old in April has been lifting weights for over 50 years! I guess no one told him that he should be confined to a nursing home.

Oh by the way I almost forgot to tell you. Gene has three sons working out at the same gym! He is a great inspiration to everyone there.

Healthcare and quality of life is in your hands. Don't wait for the government to take responsibility for it. If you do, you are almost certainly assured of a lifetime of suffering and prescription drug use. As far as health is concerned, Independence Day doesn't have to occur only on July 4. It can be EVERY DAY!

It is never to late to begin an exercise program. My training partner Bill didn't start lifting weights until he was in his early 60s. And he had been smoking cigarettes for 30 years. The youngest member of our trio, Kenny, is in his early 40s and both Bill and I can keep up with him.

I am familiar with the excuses that people come up with for not exercising because I used a lot of them myself--'I don't have time', 'I'm too tired', 'I'll start tomorrow.' These are nothing more than excuses--arguments we use to justify a position we have taken. None of them are valid. The payoff and benefits of exercise are just too great to excuse away.

Let's examine these excuses one by one.

I don't have time. I have two words in response to that--Make Time! Exercise is too important to neglect. Studies have shown that you don't have to have one exercise session lasting for a couple of hours. You will still benefit if you break your exercise routine into mini workouts of 5, or 10 minutes scattered throughout the day.

I started lifting weights in the evening right after I got off from work. I did this for years. I then changed my workout routine to the AM. I like mornings better. This is a good way to start the day. I am so energized and invigorated when I am finished, that I am more than able to cope with the day's challenges.

But everyone is an individual. I was able to make the transition from evenings to mornings. You may not be able to. It doesn't matter. Just do it! If your schedule is so demanding that you have to employ mini-workouts, then do that. Just get it in.

I'm too tired. This may sound like a valid excuse, but it really isn't. The following statement may sound paradoxical but actually isn't. One of the reasons you feel sluggish and tired is due to lack of exercise. Yes. Instead of a regular exercise program robbing you of vitality and strength, it builds, tones, strengthens, and energizes the body.

I feel great after lifting hundreds of pounds of iron in the gym. I am not tired and 'pooped out.' When I am ready to go to bed, I get a good nights sleep. I don't wind up 'tossing and turning' as you might expect to happen after strenuous exercise.

I'll start tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes--it is always today. Tomorrow is for procrastinators. Don't you be one. The dividends that exercise provides are far too great to put off for a 'tomorrow' that never comes. Many studies show that exercise is a natural drug for the body. It will help prevent high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, overweight and obesity. It will also help prevent dementia and Alzheimer's disease. And guess what? Exercise will make you smart. And it slows down the aging process. This is your true fountain of youth--and it's all drug-free.

The second part of guaranteed quality of life is nutrition. Doing one without the other is like rowing with one oar. You are constantly moving but going nowhere.

America and the rest of the world are experiencing an obesity crisis because we are living a sedentary life and eating processed food. Our demanding schedules leave us too little time to make good, nutritious home-cooked meals so we eat fast food on the run. And unfortunately, many people are drinking a great portion of their calories in the form of sugary, nutrient-challenged soft drinks and juices.

A quality of life cannot be built on empty calories masquerading as food. You need nutrient-dense food, not calorie-dense food. Good nutrition requires plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, wild fish and organic meat.

Processed foods must be minimized if quality of life is desired. These foods have been so stripped of vitamins, fiber and other important nutrients that all they do is increase your body's fat stores. It is these foods which are contributing to the global obesity epidemic. Obesity is a contributing factor to certain cancers, high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, and other illnesses.

There was a time when quality of life could be taken for granted. Americans were much more active in our grand and great-grandparents days than they are today. There was a minimum of processed food, and deadly chemicals such as high fructose corn syrup, aspartame, trans fats, artificial colors, artificial preservatives, artificial flavorings, hormones, and pesticides were non-existent.

People back then relied on home remedies and natural cures if they became ill. Today we rely on deadly prescription drugs and a broken healthcare system to nurse us back to health when we become ill.

But you don't have to become ill. I and many others are living examples. You, too, can live a quality life. Take some time to log into my website () and read its contents. I can guarantee a healthy and sick-free life if you implement what is contained therein.

The obesity crisis is global. Almost every nation is struggling with a population which is growing larger by the year.

Unfortunately this trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down, let alone decreasing. The percentage of Americans overweight in 1960 was 45 percent; in that same year, 13 percent were obese.

Fast forward to the 21st century. America’s overweight percentage is now 66 percent while approximately 33 percent are obese.

Obesity is a crisis because with rising body weight comes rising risk factors for chronic disease, and the development of disease itself. Certain cancers, heart disease, and even seemingly unlikely medical conditions such as asthma, sleep apnea, and erectile dysfunction are directly or indirectly related to obesity.

Another name for type 2 diabetes is adult-onset diabetes. That’s because it used to affect mostly adults. Not any more. Rising obesity rates are afflicting children with this terrible disease. Overweight and obesity is expensive. It costs America about $123 billion per year. The average medical costs for an obese patient is approximately 25 to 35 percent greater than for a non-obese patient!

Childhood obesity statistics for America are appalling. Look at the data from the mid 1970s to 2003-2004:

    Age Range Mid-1970s 2003-2004:

    2 thru 5 5% 14%

    6 thru 11 7% 19%

    12 thru 19 5% 17%

Obesity rates in the 2 through 5 year old and 6 through 11 year old categories almost tripled! They more than tripled in the 12 through 19 year old group!

The global obesity crisis is causing people worldwide to change their lifestyles. Resorting to diets is a bandaide. Only a healthy lifestyle can cure obesity.

In this e-book you will find why diets fail. You will discover that only by a change in lifestyle can you enjoy good health through permanent weight reduction.

You will also discover how America and the world reached this point. There is a reason for everything. After reading the reasons for our global obesity epidemic, you will better understand and appreciate the ‘cure.’

Obesity was not inevitable. It was however inevitable when food companies relied more and more on chemicals, and excessive processing.

But the global obesity crisis is a two-pronged problem. Along with food companies tinkering with food products, technology has given the world population more gadgets to distract us from physical activity. We have become excessively sedentary. We’re obsessed with text messaging and talking on cell phones, watching 24/7 cable/satellite television, surfing the web, and playing countless hours of video games.

There’s no more time to exercise. Stairs have become little more than ‘window dressing’ since hardly anyone uses them anymore. The automobile has become our major means of transportation–relegating walking to situations where it cannot be avoided.

A Comprehensive Guide to Weight Loss will show you what food ingredients and chemicals to avoid. These ingredients and chemicals not only will make you fat, but they negatively affect overall health. You will learn that exercise is a remedy for not only obesity, but chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Prepare to read and digest the enclosed obesity destroying material in these pages. Also prepare to feel and look as you have possibly never felt and looked before. Let the journey begin...
